Defuse smoke situations before they start

If you plan typical triggers in advance, you don't have to make spontaneous decisions at the crucial moment.

Many smoking impulses do not just start with the cigarette. They start significantly earlier: after eating, when getting into the car, during a coffee break or on the way out.

The best decision is often the one you made before.

The sooner you recognize the trigger, the easier it is for you to interrupt your usual smoking routine.

Why preparation is so effective

Many smoking situations happen automatically. The same place, the same time or the same action trigger the same process again and again.

Deciding beforehand what you will do instead will take the pressure off yourself in the moment of desire. You don't have to think, just follow a plan that has already been prepared.

From “What should I do now?” becomes “I already know what my next step is.”

How to create an if-then plan

Choose your three most common triggers and add a specific action to each.

For example:

- When I get up after eating, I first drink a glass of water. - When I get into the car, I immediately start my favorite playlist. - When I take a coffee break, I go out for some fresh air.

It is important that the action is simple, concrete and can be implemented immediately.

The clearer your plan, the less room there is for old habits.
